Our goal is to provide children removed from their families and living under state care with emotional security, opportunities for development, and a genuine chance at an independent and happy life.

THIS IS HOW WE HELP

In 2010, Ágnes and Albrecht Wirtz founded the “Világszép” Foundation for children who live in foster care. Since then, this foundation is no longer just Ágnes’ and Albrecht’s personal story, calling and passion, but also that of the 31 employees, 35 freelance specialists and more than 100 volunteers trained by the foundation – or as we say: we are a whole Világszép village. These 190 children, aged 1 – 25, are our Világszép children.

Our programs build on each other, with the mentoring program being the core and then connecting other element of our work. In addition, our inclusive kindergarten, our youth clubs and activities, our camps at Lake Balaton and our storytelling sessions in 5 children’s homes aim to develop our children’s self-esteem. You learn to accept and love yourself. As adults, they will have the opportunity to set goals and develop a positive image of the future. We empower them to be able to take care of themselves and take responsibility for themselves.

HOW YOU CAN HELP US

How can these children, who are still almost invisible to society, be helped effectively and sustainably? These children carry with them their scar, their history and many experiences of abuse, invisible to the outside world. Added to this existing baggage are the stigmas and prejudices of society towards “children in state care”. Moreover, they lack the personal advocates and support that most children have through their parents.

Our children carry trauma that has no simple solution. Findings in neuroscience show that there is no medication or simple therapy for children who have been traumatized by the adults closest to them. Your chance to get by in life lies in long-term, honest, interpersonal relationships and in accepting love. This approach is the core and meaning of our work.

OUR FIVE PROGRAMS

MENTORING PROGRAM

Our expert and trained volunteer mentors provide our children a long-term, steady point in supporting on their journey from the age of 7 until the safe start of their independent life.

SUMMER CAMPS

In our summer camps, our children receive individual attention, programs tailored to their age and interests, and they can discover their own inner strengths they can build on in their daily lives.

STORYTELLING

Weekly, spoken word storytelling in foster homes gives us the opportunity to provide a safe haven and bring joyful and intimate moments into their ever-changing lives.

PENDULA KINDERGARTEN

Our foundation believes in inclusive education. Our Pendula preschool/kindergarten supports nine children who are raised in state-run foster homes.

VILÁGSZÉP CLUB

In the community space of our foundation’s headquarters, we offer a variety of experiential, individual and group activities for our children to develop their creativity.

We believe that the most effective form of help is personal, that the power of a community can move mountains. This has been our core value since the beginning. The founder, Ágnes Wirtz, and her husband Albrecht work alongside 31 colleagues, day-to-day for children living in foster homes. Our work is also strengthened by 100 trained volunteers and 35 professional partners, who are all deeply committed to ensuring that the 190 children currently in contact with us can count on the Világszép community’s personal connection and support for many years to come.

We are creating the Világszép Patrons Club with this goal in mind. We want to create a community where members believe that one child is a whole world.

A community that works to ensure that disadvantaged children with serious traumas also get a fair chance in life. Our children are lovable and valuable, just like any others.

WHAT DOES THIS DONATION COVER?

With these funds the employees of the foundation can ensure the sponsored child a qualified mentor. In addition, the child can participate in group programs, camps, weekly development sessions, and our volunteers visit foster homes weekly for storytelling sessions.

HOW CAN PATRONS TAKE PART IN THE FOUNDATION’S LIFE?

The host of the Világszép Patrons Club, who is also the chair of the foundation’s board of trustees, Ágnes Wirtz, will hold an annual event, with a different theme every year, for the club members, where they’ll be able to take a glance into the organization’s day-to-day work.

István Nádler, painter created a painting for the Világszép Patrons Club, and every Patron will receive a numbered, personally autographed giclée print.

Club members will get to read about the foundation’s professional programs, milestones, and the use of their donations, in a detailed yearly report.

WHY CAN’T PATRONS MEET OR RECEIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHILD THEY SUPPORT?

Because our professional experience tell us that creating personal connections with children living in foster homes comes with huge responsibility and professional humility.

Because our colleagues work every day to make sure that they fulfill their responsibility towards the children we support and the adults they come into contact with – strictly protecting the children’s rights and the mental health of everyone involved.

Because since the beginning we’ve told the Világszép children that besides our love, we also give them help unconditionally and our children do not owe us anything for this.
